The Cinque Terre (five lands) section of the coast consists of five fishing hamlets, surrounded by high cliffs against the water. So rugged is the terrain, that three of these villages have no access other than by foot, boat, or train.

Note the sport parachutist hovering in the very top center. They hang out for hours in the upward drafts at the tops of the mountains before settling down on the beach.
